Islamic Studies Department of Islamic Studies

Diploma in Islamic Studies provides a foundational understanding of key areas within Islamic studies. The program typically covers topics like Aqeedah (Islamic creed), Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Tafseer (Qur'aanic interpretation), Hadeeth (Prophetic narrations), and Seerah (Prophet's biography). It also includes an introduction to Arabic language and grammar, as well as practical skills for Islamic studies. 

Here's a more detailed outline of what you can expect in a Diploma in Islamic Studies:

Core Areas of Study:

Aqeedah (Islamic Creed):

  • Focuses on the fundamental beliefs of Islam, including the concepts of Tawhid (oneness of God), the prophets, angels, the scriptures, and the afterlife. 

Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence):

  • Explores the legal aspects of Islam, covering topics like prayer, fasting, charity, pilgrimage, and other rituals. 

Tafseer (Quranic Interpretation):

  • Examines the methods and principles of interpreting the Quran, helping students understand its meanings and messages. 

Hadeeth (Prophetic Narrations):

  • Studies the authentic narrations and sayings of Prophet Muhammad, which provide guidance on various aspects of life. 

Seerah (Prophet's Biography):

  • Focuses on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, offering insights into his character, actions, and guidance. 

Supporting Subjects:

Arabic Language:

  • Develops proficiency in Arabic language, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, necessary for understanding Islamic texts. 

Introduction to Islamic Sciences:

  • Provides a general overview of the various branches of Islamic knowledge, such as history, culture, and spirituality. 

Islamic History & Civilization:

  • Explores the historical development of Islam and its impact on various civilizations. 

Islamic Spirituality (Tazkiyah):

  • Focuses on the principles and practices of spiritual development and purification within Islam. 

Other Important Aspects:

Methodology & Practicum for Islamic Studies:

  • Equips students with the skills needed to teach and learn Islamic Studies effectively, including lesson planning, teaching aids, and curriculum development. 

Entry Requirements

  • Students must have a full Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with credit pass in English and one Science Subject if applying for Public Health and Nutrition.
  • College admits both male and female students.
  • Students are admitted from any religious and social background
